Five Tips for Buying a Sports Car PDF Print E-mail
Cars are expensive investments, even more so with sports cars. Top that with the complex sports car market and the whole experience can be intimidating.  So if you plan to buy a new sports car, keep these 5 tips in mind:

Research the Market

Prepare yourself beforehand by researching the market for the car you intend to buy. To do this you can follow the classifieds for a while to get a feel for the market price of your car. You can also search for the car online to get a larger view of what the car is worth and how much people are paying for it.

Have Patience

Avoid being pressured into making a decision to buy until you are ready.  On the other hand, do not feign interest in buying just to see what kind of deal you can expect.

Save the negotiating for when you are ready to buy.  You may find you won’t get serious attention or as good of a deal if you return to a dealership where you have ‘played games’ with them before.

Have patience where discussing your target price is concerned. Revealing your price too soon will allow dealers to push the price upwards or lead you towards cars you might not be interested in. Instead, discuss your price in broad terms without being specific.

Negotiate Using the Telephone

Once you have determined the potential sports cars you wish to buy then you need to begin negotiations on price. This is a critical stage in buying your new car if you are determined to get the best price. Be sure to use good negotiating techniques.

Do your negotiations over the telephone instead of face to face at the dealership. The dealer will probably try to lure you into the dealership, but it is in his best interest to do so and not yours. Once you are there, then the sales people can work in teams and pull out their various sales scenarios to manipulate you into buying a car on their terms at their price.

Sports car dealers are professionals and as such know all the tricks of the trade and understand buyer psychology. They know how to pressure you

By negotiating the deal by telephone you can bypass a lot of their games simply because you are not looking at them face to face and it weakens their power to manipulate you.  You are less apt to make pressured, rushed decisions, and that will benefit your bottom line in the end.

Preserve Your Power
Keep your best interests in mind and don’t feel intimidated by the salesperson. It is part of they psychology of sales that they attempt to gain the upper hand in the bargaining process. If you become powerless then you will make poor decisions and may even be led to accepting a price you don’t want.  Remain confident, know that in reality you are in control because you are the consumer and they want to sell you that car.

Be Reasonable

Being a tough negotiator doesn’t mean being rude or loud. It means sticking to your guns but in a civilized and controlled manner. The last thing you want is to make an enemy of the car dealer. You may want to use them for car repairs or buy future cars from them so it is best to work on developing a relationship of mutual trust and respect.

Consider these five tips before shopping for your new sports car and see if it doesn’t make the whole process go a little smoother.
